Showing your love for someone shouldn't have to necessarily put a big dent in your wallet or at least don't let the stores gouge you when they raise their prices just in time for these special days. There are several ways to give inexpensive Valentine's gifts that are still thoughtful and that they will love.

It seems that for Valentine's Day and a few other special days like Mother's Day many places raise their prices to ridiculous levels gouging people during a time when they just want to show their love and/or appreciation for a loved one. Nothing annoys me more than to see the prices and florist shops rise from say $19.99/dozen for roses to $59.99 or more it's crazy if you ask me. So I think it's time to not to pay those prices and utilize some tips and strategies where we can give gifts that are just as meaningful.

So without further adieu here are some of inexpensive Valentine's Day gift ideas that are sure to please, and yes my family and I have utilized ALL of these strategies at one time or another 🙂 I hope you find them helpful.

Favorite tip #1

Every year my husband does NOT buy me flowers on Valentine's Day and that's okay we've agreed we do not way to pay $20, $30, $40 or more than what the flowers would cost any other time of the year. It's crazy to pay so much extra when you don't have to. However that does not mean I don't get flowers at all, I just get them some time after Valentine's Day. In fact it's quite fun as I never know exactly when my hubby is going to come home with flowers, it's usually anywhere from one week to 10 days after Valentine's when the prices have gone down.

However if you'd still like to buy someone flowers for Valentine's Day another great idea which we use all the time is to find a wholesale floral shop that sells to the public. Our favorite one we've used over the years for all occasions, including my wedding and many, many Mother's Days for my mom and myself of course. They do the arrangements but they also sell wholesale so they are not as expensive as retail floral shops.

Tip #3

How about something made with love? Make your loved one a nice dinner with all their favorite things. Light some candles and if  you have children have them help you with it or make it a Valentine's family dinner. I like to involve my daughter she gets such a kick out of it. If you prefer something more romantic maybe arrange for the kids to watch a movie, go to the grandparents or other relatives depending on their age.

Tip #4

To continue the theme of making something with love how about making a special dessert or treat? I make homemade truffles and my family and friends for that matter love them. Better yet they're quite easy to make! CHECK OUT MY RECIPE HERE. Put them in a nice heart shaped tin or a red or pink one or decorate a tin whatever you prefer and you can just pick up a nice tin or gift box from the dollar store!

Tip #5

For the ladies or men who like it an at home spa day. With all the things on Pinterest and more there are tons of options out there on how to make your own spa products, bubble bath, masques and more

Tip# 6

Gift Cards, their prices never go up and in fact sometimes you can get gift cards for discounts at places like http://www.giftcardgranny.ca/(Canada) or http://www.giftcardgranny.com/ US site is , Cardswap (Canada), Gift Card Rescue (US) Ebates and so many more! Just search Discount Gift Cards. I know some people think gift cards are impersonal but I and many people I know LOVE receiving them and then we can get what we truly like. Besides part of it is presentation have the gift card attached to a single rose, with a bottle of wine or something that suits the receiver of the gift card.

We have more tips but this article would be the size of a book if we rambled on so hopefully those six tips are enough to give you some ideas to have a lovely Valentine's with you loved ones whether it be your partner, kids or your whole family and not break the bank 🙂

Please share your Valentine's gift ideas below that also are easy on the wallet we'd love to hear your ideas!

  3. Like the ideas regarding spending time together and making things for each other.
They mean more than just purchasing flowers because society says that you have to do so on that day....

  8. I love the truffles and they would be much cheaper than store ought chocolates. The single rose looks very pretty. Why spend a fortune and waste countless hours when there's less stress by creating it ourselves. Thanks

  9. I agree with your first tip, what a great idea, I'm going to mention it to my husband. We're annoyed, to say the least, by the over-commercialization of holidays and such. Who says Valentine's Day has to be celebrated only on the day that is declared by (whom)? Valentine's Day can be celebrated anytime of the year in a relationship, as it should be.

  10. We like either going to a movie when is cheaper for seniors or going to one of our favorite restaurants, like Red Lobster at off times (can celebrate when you want to and does not necessary have to be on the day other's do the same) when less crowded and can sometimes be cheaper, either way is time spent with each other doing something we do not usually do, because of budget concerns, with only a Social Security income

  11. I usually attempt to make a nice dinner but I don't really cook so the boyfriend ends up taking over. Then we either go to the movies or snuggle on the couch with a rental

  12. I think a single red rose is just as nice as a bunch! I also like to use rose essential oil in a tub ( with rose petals & candles) or added to lotion for a massage! My husband loves to have his feet massaged more than getting a store bought card.

  15. I have friends who love gardening and instead of flowers, their husbands buy them plants. For the last several years one of them has gotten a new rose bush each year.

  17. I love the idea of making dinner at home and putting candles on the table. The year my ex-husband did this for me was my favorite Valentine's Day ever!

  18. One year I found these little red hearts that are like little plastic tins...I got them at the dollar store. There's 12 of them I think. I put little notes in them for my husband....compliments, reasons why I love him, "remember when...." and then little chocolates in some of them too. I put the first one on the bathroom sink, then by the coffee pot, then in the cupboard by the peanut butter, on top of the cereal box, eventually out in his car...so he saw the last few on his way to work. This was about 3 years ago, but I saw the little hearts in my bedroom drawer just the other day, and I am definitely going to make a point to do it again this year. Since we had kids, I usually get too busy making their little Valentine's Day treat bags for school, the night before, that I forget about my hubby...but not this year! This year I am going to plan ahead! I bet he will be SO surprised!!!

  22. A great place to get roses very cheap is Aldi, the grocery store. They usually have other bouquets too, so you could treat more than one person to a single flower and maybe a small bag of candy.

  23. These are some good tips, and I like the truffles recipe! I never thought of buying Valentine's Day flowers late, paying less, and then the surprise of when they'll come adds to the fun! Thanks for the ideas.

  24. I usually make a really nice dinner on Valentine's day, like steak, baked potato, salad and a nice dessert. I prefer not to go out that night because I feel it's not worth waiting up to 2 hours for a table and possibly pay more just because it's Valentine's day, so we go out the night before or night after.
