What Can I Make the Peanut Butter Bar Crust With?
I used regular Oreo cookies for this crust, but you can easily update it with something you prefer. Some ideas for making your no bake bars crusts include the following:
- Peanut Butter Oreos
- Nutter Butter cookies
- Graham Cracker crumbs
- Vanilla wafers
- Shortbread
- Peanut Butter cookies
- Chocolate digestive biscuits
You can also make these even more unique by using Reese’s Pieces candy bits, peanut butter chips, or even crushed peanut butter cookie bits on top!
Now who is ready for this delicious recipe? Here you go, you won’t believe how easy it is. The hardest part about this chocolate peanut butter bars recipe is waiting for them chill and set!
No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

If you love chocolate and peanut butter you will adore these chocolate peanut butter bars with a crushed Oreos base layer!
Ingredients
- 16 Oreos
- 14 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 ½ cups peanut butter
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar
- 1 ¾ cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- Handful peanut butter cups, roughly chopped
Instructions
- Line an 8x8 pan with aluminum foil and set aside.
- In a food processor, add the oreos and pulse until a fine crumble forms. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a microwave-safe dish, then add it to the oreo crumbles and pulse for several more seconds until combined. Press mixture into the bottom of the pan in an even layer.
- In a large, microwave-safe dish, add 5 tablespoons of butter and the peanut butter. Melt in 30-second increments until melted and smooth. Stir in the brown sugar and powdered sugar, then press into the pan on top of the oreo base.
- Wipe out the bowl, then add the remaining 5 tablespoons of butter and the chocolate chips and microwave for 1 minute, then stir carefully and continue microwaving in 30-second increments, if needed, until melted and smooth. Pour over the peanut butter mixture and smooth out to the edges. Sprinkle with the chopped peanut butter cups, then chill for at least 3 hours in the fridge. Let stand for 5-10 minutes at room temperature before serving.

How to Store Leftover Peanut Butter Bars
One of my favorite parts of this recipe is that you don’t need to refrigerate these! That means you can make them, slice into portions, and wrap them up or put them right into a container on the counter. They are a bit messy for putting in a cookie jar, but you can definitely put them into plastic wrap, a Ziploc bag, or a food storage container.
These are good for 5-7 days after preparing them, but you can freeze extras for later if needed.
Now doesn’t that look easy? Especially for such a delectable treat as these chocolate peanut butter bars! These are a great treat that combine your favorite flavors. Cookies, candy, and a rich peanut butter filling are the decadent addition you never knew you needed!
My daughter has declared that I need to make these chocolate peanut butter bars at least once a month. I’m not sure my waistline could take that but my tastebuds agree! They are perfect for sharing! A batch of these is ideal for tucking into lunches throughout the week. So, you can make them and not feel worried about eating them all yourself!

Do you use the whole Oreo for the crust or do you separate the filling from the cookies?
Use the whole Oreo cookie, along with the melted butter it helps keep the crust together 🙂

These look fabulous! How long will these stay fresh? Do you store in refrigerator? Can you freeze them or will chocolate on top change color? Thanks. Cant wait to make them!
Hi dee, you can store in the fridge, just use an airtight container. I left them at room temp (not a hot room) so they were ready to eat, if it’s colder they’re harder. You can freeze, we only had them in the freezer for a month, the chocolate color did not change but if it does they’re still good. I’ve been to a chocolate factory and they explained to me when chocolate gets that dusty look on top doesn’t mean it’s gone bad just fyi 😉
