It's True a A Little Sunshine Makes a BIG Difference!

Whether we're talking about our surroundings or ourselves during this dreary, grey, wet, snowy, icy winter a little sunshine can make a big difference. Most days I will walk to my daughter's school to pick her up except those really wet and raining days because even I have my limits and walking in pouring rain is mine.

Feb-march 2014

Anyways back to the point a few days ago I left early so I could get in a longer walk before picking my daughter up from school, we had had the major snow fall the week before so  on our street the roads and sidewalks were still covered quite a bit in the white stuff. I walk up a few more streets and the sun is shining down this street and wouldn't you know it there is next to no snow on the ground on this street.

Check out my pictures below the ones on the left are on my street the ones on the right are only a few blocks away and YES these pictures were taken on the same day within 15 minutes of each other. Our weather has been so crazy here that Mother Nature is a bit confused as we can see flowers under the snow that the week  before when we had milder weather were trying to come out. We do get sun on our street but at the front it's morning sun, we get the afternoon sun in our backyard where more of the snow had melted.

A bit of sunshine

A little sunshine makes  BIG difference those with the afternoon sun exposure have spring like streets, my street which also has a forest on one side is more sheltered and still looked like a winter wonderland LOL. This got me thinking about how a little sunshine can make a big difference for people too. Winter can be tough for many with so many dark and grey days, people get a bit depressed, don't eat as healthy, can't exercise as much if the weather is bad etc..

Well to bring a little sunshine where there might not be any you can do things like get a sunlight lamp or light bulb, full spectrum sunlight is what they provide. It can lift your spirits and bring you a little sunshine. Can't go for a walk and get some exercise because the weather is so bad? Things you can do at home are some jumping jacks, dance to your favorite song, walk up and down stairs for a stretch, you get the idea.

If the sun does appear, even if you can't go out walking just step outside and soak up a few rays, every little bit helps. I will trudge through the snow and go for a walk as long as the snow is not up to my knees. The days I'm not up for it I do some work out DVDs at home, look at pictures of summer vacations and reminisce.

  2. I love in southeast Wisconsin and it has been along dreary cold snowy winter. I already have cabin fever and suffer from it every year........but this year is really tough because of the extreme cold and I just had total knee replacement surgery making it tough for me to get outside when it its nice.

  4. It has been a long winter here in PA. We are definitely ready for some sun to break us out of these winter blues. I love to sit out on my porch swing on a nice warm sunny day with a cup of coffee and listen to the sounds of nature. It really does lift my spirits if I've had a bad day.

  5. Sunshine makes a person feel so much better after long spells of dreary weather. Today was a glorious sunny day here in Texas where it has been cold & cloudy for weeks & weeks. When I am feeling down I usually buy myself a small gift & that cheers me up!

  6. Sunshine is important, provides us with Vitamin D and that's important for bones and teeth health and it also improves your moods. I find when I don't get enough sunlight in the winter, my moods seem to stretch longer.

  9. I absolutely love the snow! I live in Ca and where I live it doesn't snow. We're actually in a drought right now so I'm praying for more rain. As of this wk it's going to be in the 70's & 80's. To uplift me I go to the marina and just enjoy the sunshine and water. I do love winter, but it's always nice to see Mr.Sunshine 🙂

  10. Enjoy the sun and your post, it looked beautiful, we are close to 76 degreees today and had snow on Saturday, this is one messed up winter here and I am waiting for spring to hurry up and get here and stay. Having a lot of wild fires here today, so what snow and ice we have had in Oklahoma have not helped with the fire warnings.

  14. I bundle up with a blanket around me and sit on a lounge chair on my porch when the Sun is strong and it definitely helps me during 'cabin fever' time out here in rural PA country. I try to get my dogs our for long walks on nice days as long as we can avoid the ice. I'll be so glad when Winter is over this year!

  16. Yes this crazy winter weather has been depressing and aggravating with all the schools days off and all the shoveling. We still have piles of snow all over here yet. Two days this week the weather actually hit the 50's which seemed like spring . I worked in my garden some and noticed a few of my snow flowers coming up. The sun and flowers made me cheer up and give me hopes that spring will soon finally be here : ) Yeah

  19. To lift my spirits lately I have been planting seeds for summer plants, something little but it is amazing to watch them grow and I know that it means more days of sunshine are on the way. Plus when the sun is shining I do try to get out and enjoy it by taking my dog for a walk!

  21. I make sure I have the curtains open whether it's sunny or not, just to get some light in. But sunny days are the best! Too many dark days in a row makes me want to get in the car and drive somewhere to find some sunshine.

  22. Living in AR we do not expect to have a winter like this year...reminds me of when we lived in PA or MA. We have had two major storms a month apart and finally the sun is out today and most of the ice/snow has melted. It was nice to look out the window this morning and actually see the garden spot brown and not white.

  24. We are finally getting some much needed sun and warmth, which also is helping warm the house since we are out of big logs of wood.
Game nights light my life in a totally different way as well. And give me a happy hour and I am a happy gal!

  25. I live in an area where it doesn't snow. However I grew up in the midwest ... I do not miss the snow at all, but my 12 year old son has never been to a place that has snow and he would love to!
