For the Crust:
- Regular Oreos (not the double-stuffed ones)
- Unsalted butter
For the Cream Cheese Layer:
- Cream cheese softened
- Granulated sugar (or can use powdered sugar)
- Whipping cream
- Vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Pudding Layer:
- Instant pudding mix (chocolate)
- Milk
For the Whipped Cream Layer:
- Whipping cream
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla extract
Optional Toppings:
Chocolate shavings, cocoa powder and chocolate sauce
Instructions

First Layer
- In a food processor or blender, pulse the Oreos until finely crushed. Alternatively, you can place them in a sealed plastic bag and crush them using a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy object.
- Add the melted butter and pulse again for 5 seconds until the Oreo cookie crumbs are well coated with butter.
- Press the Oreo cookies mixture into the bottom of the pan, we used a 9x13-inch baking dish to form the crust. Ensure the crust is evenly distributed and firmly pressed down. Place the dish in the fridge to chill while preparing the remaining layers.
- In a separate mixing bowl mix the whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Add the softened cream cheese and granulated sugar and beat until smooth.
Cream Cheese Layer
- For the next layer, remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cookie crust to form the cream cheese layer.
- In a large bowl, prepare the instant chocolate pudding according to the package instructions, using cold milk. Whisk until the pudding is thick and smooth.
- Pour the chocolate pudding over the cream cheese layer, spreading it evenly to form the pudding layer.
- In a separate mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar for the whipped cream layer. add the vanilla extract and whip until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the whipped cream over the chocolate pudding layer, creating the final layer.
- Sprinkle cocoa powder and chocolate shavings or sprinkles on top for decoration.
Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the layers to set and flavors to meld.
Once chilled and set, slice and serve the chocolate lasagna.
Hint:
Soften the cream cheese at room temperature before mixing it with the sugar to achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
Since this dessert lasagna is layered in one pan it's a great choice to bring to any gatherings like potlucks, parties, and of course family gatherings.
Substitutions
You can substitute the whipped cream in the cream cheese layer with Cool Whip. It does make this layer more stabilized but we like the taste of whipped cream in this layer more than Cool Whip. The top whipped cream layer can also be substituted for Cool Whip.
Feel free to put whatever toppings you want on the dessert lasagna but below are some ideas. I put too much cocoa powder on ours and while it was still good, I would sprinkle less on it next time.
- Chocolate shavings/curls
- Crushed Oreos
- Cocoa Powder
- Chocolate Sauce
- Mini chocolate chips
- Reese’s Pieces
- Chocolate ganache
- Marshmallows
Variations
Feel free to customize the recipe by using different flavors of instant pudding mix, such as vanilla, to create variations of the chocolate lasagna recipe.
Equipment
Storage
Leftover chocolate lasagna can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or in the freezer (skip the toppings) for up to 3 months. We actually like to freeze the chocolate lasagna for an hour before serving. It can make it a bit easier to cut clean pieces of the dessert.
