Camping instead of staying in a hotel can be an awesome money-saving alternative and also a ton of fun! If you're open to exploring the idea as a way to make memories and save money, it can be an experience that everyone in the family will love and enjoy.camping tips

What should I bring for camping?

This is totally up to you! Everyone has different needs when it comes to being comfortable camping, but a few of the items that are highly recommended would be:

  • Bug Spray
  • Camping Bags
  • Pillows and Blankets
  • Books
  • Flashlights
  • Sunblock
  • Hats
  • Earplugs
  • Eye masks (for those who don't like to wake up bright and early)

And don't forget the coffee! If you're a lover of all things caffeine, head to the store and get some instant coffee that you can just mix up with water. It may not be what you're used to, but when you're spending long days in the Disney parks, you're going to need that energy for sure!camping tips

How do you make camping fun for kids?

It's highly doubtful that this will be an issue when camping at the Disney Fort Wilderness Resort, but if it is, don't fret. Bring along a few games, art supplies, toys, and books and you'll find that when you go camping, the pace just tends to slow down and everyone in the family does a great job at finding their own groove and entertaining themselves a little bit better.

Now that you know a little bit about how to camp, let's dive in on some camping tips for helping to make Disney more affordable!

Simple Disney camping tips to save money

When it comes down to it, camping isn't hard to do! It's a great way to encourage family time, bonding and slowing down the pace of the world.

Bring your own camper or tent instead of staying in a hotel

Did you know that if you bring your own small camper or tent, your nightly fee is only $56 per night, plus tax?! That's a crazy cheap way to stretch your money when vacationing at Disney! People spend hundreds more per night to stay in a hotel room where they aren't even there that long because they're out and about exploring all the theme parks. You can rack up some major nightly savings just by bringing along your own tent!camping tips

Grocery shop when you get there for your food items

While it's true that Disney allows you to bring in water and snacks, don't forget about all the main meals of the day that you're going to be needing to eat as well. One easy way to not break the bank on eating out at restaurants is to go grocery shopping when you arrive. That way, you can pack up your coolers for your camp spot and have a ton of fresh veggies, fruit and meal items ready for the next several days. You can easily spend $100 on food that can last you many, many meals compared to spending that one only one or two meals at a restaurant.

Split the camping fee with friends

If you read the fine print at Disney's Fort Wilderness, it says that there $56 per night camping fee campsite can accommodate up to 2 tents. Why not look into traveling with family and friends and split down the camping costs even more? Now, instead of paying $56 per night, you're paying less than $30. And trust this, you won't find any cheaper lodging accommodations for Disney than that!camping tipsThese simple camping tips can be a great way to truly save some major money when traveling to Disney. Not only are they easy to do, but they also won't add any extra stress onto your travels. The campground is actually a great place for families to stay and experience everything that Disney has to offer! Pack up your tent and get ready to experience Mother Nature and Disney at the same time!
