- large croissants
- fresh blueberries
- large eggs
- milk
- heavy cream
- granulated sugar
- cream cheese
- vanilla extract
- ground cinnamon (optional)
- powdered sugar (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Use non-stick cooking spray at the bottom of the baking dish you can skip this but I found the casserole would stick to the bottom.
- Spread the chopped croissant pieces in an even layer in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the blueberries over the croissants.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, cream cheese, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants and blueberries. Gently press down the croissants with a spatula to ensure they absorb the custard.
Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, then bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.- Let the breakfast casserole cool slightly, then dust the top layer with powdered sugar. Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup, honey and or whipped cream. Youc an add more fresh berries if you like, I personally love having more fresh fruit on top and will sometimes add a mix of berries.
Notes:
- You can swap blueberries for other berries or add a mix for variety.
- If using frozen blueberries, there’s no need to thaw them—just add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
- For added crunch, sprinkle slivered almonds or chopped pecans on top before baking.
- This recipe mixes soft, custardy with a lightly crisp, golden top. The croissants absorb the custard while retaining some flaky layers, delivering a delicious blend of creamy and crispy bites.
Expect a sweet and slightly tangy flavor from the blueberries, enhanced by the vanilla and cinnamon. The powdered sugar adds a sweet finishing touch. Between the fluffy croissants, blueberries and decadent custard this is bound to be up there on the list of special breakfasts. How can delicious recipes like this not be a family favorite?
