Let’s Help Blake Find a Home! Dog Adoption of the Day #AdoptDon’tShop
Blake is a 10 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix, is a special case and he needs extra exposure and shares for it. His shelter is located two hours north of Bismarck and only one hour from the Canadian border.
Meet Blake
If you’re not going to have a pet be indoors with you the majority of the time, give it lots of love, prepared to pay vet bills in an emergency and make a life time commitment then a pet is not for you. This is something we are passionate about and really want to get the message across to adopt not shop and that it’s a lifetime commitment of love!
Information from Blake Adoption Post
Blake lived with one family his entire life until they moved overseas and could not take Blake with them. He was surrendered over a year ago. Blake was then adopted out twice, but he has been returned twice. Blake needs his forever home once and for all!
Blake is a playful and happy dog. But part of the reason Blake is having trouble finding his forever home is due to a development of food aggression because of these major life changes. We can only imagine his confusion and what he is feeling since his world was turned upside down several times over — it’s only since being surrendered that apparently brought out this issue. Blake deserves someone who can work with his fears and insecurities. Someone who will have the patience and understanding that he needs to regain his confidence back has a wanted, family dog.
Souris Valley Animal Shelter wrote, “Blake is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix. He is 10 years old now already neutered. Blake has been an inside housedog his whole life. [His former family] owned him for most of his life but had to rehome him when they moved overseas. Since then he has been in at least two other homes and our shelter in between those adoptions.
Blake likes to be outside to play and loves to go for walks. He knows the commands sit, lay down, be gentle and speak.
He is food aggressive and has bitten people a few times over food. He needs work on reconditioning with that. He is original owners never had a problem with food aggression or behavior issues. I think the food aggression thing is a result of him being here (he’s been here for over a year off and on).
He has lived with other dogs in the past. But with his recent food aggressive tendencies would do better in a single pet home. Blake is not good with cats. He pretty much needs to be with a family by himself. He has been around kids but with his food issues we do not recommend any young kids.
We are Same-Day adoption. (With some terms and conditions.) We ask if you own or rent, provide a few references, and fill out a questionnaire about your ideal pet. We do adopt to Canadians, but the pet they adopt must be vaccinated for rabies before they cross the border.”

Its hard to find a home for a dog like Blake but its not impossible. I shared and Hope Blake finds his forever home.
With love and patience, I think Blake would do just fine! Just look at that face! 🙂 I hope someone steps up to give Blake a great home very soon!
I can see why they’re having trouble finding a home for him. Dogs that are skittish and have been known to bite frighten me.
I feel so sorry for Blake It is a shame this had to happen. It would be great if someone with some dog training experience would adopt him. I will be praying. Thank you for sharing
He looks like a cutie, too bad I am nowhere near his location…
